Privacy policy
Migrenio is a privacy-first migraine diary. The core is simple: your data stays on your phone. No account, no cloud, no tracking, and we share nothing with third parties.
1. Who we are
Migrenio is developed by keus.nl (“we”). If you have a question about privacy, please get in touch through the contact form.
2. In short
- Everything you enter is stored locally on your device.
- We have no server and therefore never receive your health data.
- No account, no cloud sync, no ads, no analytics, no trackers.
- Nothing is shared with third parties — not even anonymised or aggregated, and not even if you were to give permission for it.
- The only exception to “no network traffic” is the automatic weather and environmental context (air pressure, weather and air quality) from the weather service Open-Meteo — with a coarsely rounded location and without health data (see section 5).
3. Which data does the app process, and where is it kept?
Everything you log is kept exclusively locally on your device, in the app's protected private storage (a SQLite database). This covers:
- Attack data: start and end time, pain intensity, symptoms (including aura), location of the pain and notes.
- Medication you add and log per attack, including whether it helped.
- Possible triggers you tick.
- The air pressure around the time of use (from your device's barometer or the weather fallback); with the weather fallback also the temperature and humidity.
- Environmental context with an attack (weather and air quality, such as temperature, humidity, dew point, NO₂, O₃ and PM2.5), fetched from Open-Meteo when your device already has location access — see section 5.
This data does not leave your device, except when you export it yourself (see section 8).
4. No account, no cloud, no tracking
Migrenio works entirely without an account or sign-in. There is no server of our own and no cloud storage. The app contains no analytics SDKs, no ad networks, no crash reporting with personal data and no trackers. We do not sell data and share nothing with third parties — not even in anonymised or aggregated form.
5. The only exception: automatic weather and environmental context
Migrenio automatically records the air pressure with an attack, because pressure changes are associated with migraine for some people. Optionally, the app also records broader weather and air-quality context (see below). This context comes exclusively from the free weather service Open-Meteo.
- Does your device have a built-in barometer? Then that is used and no data at all leaves the device.
-
Does your device have no barometer? Then the app fetches the current air
pressure (and, from the same response, the temperature and humidity) from
Open-Meteo, a free
weather service. In doing so:
- your coordinates are sent rounded to 2 decimals (about 1 km accuracy);
- no health data, no identification and no account go along with it;
- your location is stored nowhere — not on your device and not with us (we have no server).
Broader environmental context with an attack. Besides the air pressure, Migrenio can also record weather and air-quality data with an attack — such as temperature, humidity, dew point and air quality (NO₂, O₃, PM2.5) — plus how these changed in the hours before the attack. This happens only when your device already has location access (for example because you are on a device without a barometer or have turned on pressure alerts); Migrenio never asks for separate permission for this. Here too: coarsely rounded location (about 1 km), no health data, no identification, no account, and your location is stored nowhere. The fetched context is kept locally with your attack and does not leave your device.
If you turn on pressure alerts (optional, off by default), the app additionally fetches the air pressure forecast from Open-Meteo — also on devices with a barometer — to be able to warn you of an expected rapid pressure drop. This uses the same coarsely rounded location (about 1 km), without health data, without identification and without your location being stored. The alerts themselves are scheduled locally on your device.
The location permission your device asks for is used exclusively for the air pressure, the weather and environmental context and — if you turn them on — the pressure alerts. If you decline the permission, the app simply keeps working; only those functions are then missing. Processing by Open-Meteo is subject to their own privacy policy.
6. Health data via Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iPhone)
You can optionally (off by default) give Migrenio access to your device's health store, to use your sleep duration and heart rate variability (HRV) as context with your attacks. On Android that is Health Connect, on iPhone Apple Health. Both are facilities of your own device.
- This is read-only: Migrenio reads your sleep duration and HRV from your device and writes nothing back. Migrenio requests no write permissions.
- The data stays on your device — it is kept in Migrenio as a snapshot with an attack and does not leave your device (like the rest of your data; only you export, see section 8).
- You grant permission in the Health Connect or Apple Health screen, and can withdraw it there at any time.
- For this, no data at all leaves the device; both are local facilities and Migrenio has no server.
- Migrenio asks only for sleep and HRV. Other health data — such as your cycle, weight, heart rate or activity — is not requested and not read.
7. Dictating a note (microphone)
You can dictate a note with an attack instead of typing — useful when typing is difficult during an attack. Migrenio then converts your speech to text.
- The conversion happens entirely on your device (on-device speech recognition). Migrenio only offers the function if your device can do this locally; if it cannot, there is no button and nothing happens through a cloud.
- No audio is stored and no audio leaves the device to Migrenio — we have no server. Only the recognised text ends up in your note field, which you can edit yourself.
- Your device asks for the microphone permission separately; you can withdraw it at any time through the device settings.
8. Exporting and sharing
You can export your diary yourself as a report (for example a PDF for your doctor). That happens only on your initiative, and you choose who you share it with. From the moment you share something like that, the information leaves your device on your own initiative; what the receiving service (your email or messaging app, for example) does with it falls outside this policy.
9. Payments
Migrenio offers an optional Premium subscription (logging always stays free). Payment runs directly through your platform's store — Google Play Billing on Android, the App Store on iOS — and not through us. We do not receive or store your payment details; we have no account or server of our own. Whether you have Premium active is checked with the store and remembered locally on your device. You manage or cancel the subscription through your Google Play or App Store account.
10. Retention and deletion
Your data stays on your device for as long as you keep it. You delete individual attacks in the app. To erase everything, delete the app data (through your device settings) or the app itself — that removes the local database completely. Because we have no copy, there is nothing for us to retain or delete.
11. Security
Your data lives in the app's protected private storage on your own device. The best protection is therefore to secure your device itself with a PIN, password or biometrics.
12. Children
Migrenio is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect data from people under 16. Because all data stays local, nothing is sent to us in any case.
13. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data. With Migrenio you have that control directly: all data lives on your device and can be viewed, changed and deleted in the app. We hold no copy and therefore cannot view, export or erase anything on your behalf.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy, for example with new features. The date at the top shows the latest change. We announce important changes in the app or on this page.
15. Not a medical device
Migrenio is a diary for tracking your own pattern — not a medical device and not a diagnosis or treatment tool. Always consult a doctor with medical questions.
